Writing competitions are in full swing this summer!
Whether the challenge is to write the one week novel or a poetry contest between your creative circle, writing competitions are everywhere!
Be warned!
Don't sacrifice your normal writing routine for the passing fancy of being "the big winner".
Recently I had to turn down two great fiction contests that I really wanted to be a part of, because it would have jeopardized my personal writing commitment.
I have a goal of 500 edited and published words per day. It was a hard decision to make but my other projects are blossoming and both of the fiction contests fizzled for various reasons.
A dear blogger friend of mine spent 2 months working on a competition piece and abandoned his blog. The stress of the competition burned him out creatively and is only now starting to blog again after 4 months of recovery.
Consistency says a lot about a writer, and while I haven't been posting here in a few months, know this, each day I meet or surpass my 500 edited word goal for writing and with several larger projects in the works results will be forthcoming.
So take on a competition only if you are able to continue to compete above and beyond your daily writing commitments that you have made for yourself!
Keep on writing!
